Dispensary Near St. John's University: A 21+ Guide for Grad Students, Staff and Neighbors
For the 21-and-over side of the St. John's community: law and grad students, faculty, staff, alumni, visiting family and the neighbors on Utopia Pkwy. How to get to Jamaica Ave, what to bring, and what to leave off campus.

This page is for the 21-and-over side of the St. John's community: law and graduate students, faculty and staff, alumni, parents in town for the weekend, and the people who live on the blocks around Utopia Pkwy. If you are under 21, it is not for you, and we will not sell to you. We check ID at the door, at the counter and at every delivery.
Silk Road NYC is a New York State licensed adult-use cannabis dispensary at 166-30 Jamaica Ave, about a mile south of the Queens campus at 80-00 Utopia Pkwy. Our license is OCM-CAURD-24-000062; check it on the state list at cannabis.ny.gov/dispensary-location-verification. We are also a licensed online dispensary, so you can order for pickup or same-day delivery without guessing what is in stock.
Silk Road NYC is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by St. John's University or Hofstra University. Student groups named here chose to hold their own event in our space.
I am Sohan Bashar, the owner. St. John's people already know the store. In May 2026 the St. John's Cannabis Law Society and Hofstra's Cannabis Law Society closed out their school year with a game night in our event space; that night is written up here.
Getting from campus to Jamaica Ave
- By bus, the Q31. St. John's own transit note says to board the Q31 toward Jamaica at Utopia Pkwy and Union Tpke, at Utopia Pkwy and Stadium Rd (Gate 2), or at Utopia Pkwy and 82nd Ave (Gate 8) (St. John's bus update, MTA Q31 route). Get off at Hillside Ave and 169th St.
- The last five blocks. From Hillside Ave and 169th St, walk south on 168th St to Jamaica Ave, cross, and turn right. We are on your left, half a block down, before Merrick Blvd.
- By car. About six minutes outside rush hour. Street parking on the side streets off Jamaica Ave is metered.
- On foot. About 27 minutes downhill through Jamaica Estates, if the weather is good.
- From Manhattan. Take the F to 169 St, the closest subway stop, about seven minutes from the door. Walking maps from every station.
Look for the pink neon Silk Road sign and the Licensed Recreational Cannabis Dispensary sign on the south side of the avenue. The state's verification sign is by our door.
Bring the right ID
A student ID does not prove age, so it does not get you through the door. Bring a valid, unexpired government photo ID that shows you are 21 or older:
- a driver's license or state ID from any state;
- a passport, which is what most international students use;
- no medical card is needed.
The name on the ID has to match the name on an online order, at pickup and at delivery.
Keep it off campus
New York made adult-use cannabis legal in 2021, but a university can still set its own rules for its own buildings. Many schools that take federal funding do not allow cannabis on campus or in residence halls, even where state law allows it. Read the St. John's student code of conduct and residence life rules before you bring anything back, and do not order delivery to a residence hall or any campus building.
Two more rules that protect you. New York limits where you can smoke or vape cannabis in public, and driving high is illegal and dangerous. Get home first.
Order from our online dispensary
The live menu is our online dispensary, and it is the same inventory the registers see.
- Pick what you want and choose pickup or delivery.
- Pickup orders are usually ready in about 15 minutes, so you can order before the Q31 leaves Utopia Pkwy.
- Show your ID at the counter or at your door, pay, and you are done.
Delivery to the neighborhoods around campus
Delivery goes to off-campus addresses, and the person who placed the order has to receive it, 21 or older, with matching ID.

Paying and what to expect
- Age and ID. 21 or older, with a valid, unexpired government photo ID: driver's license, state ID or passport. We check it at the door, again at the counter, and drivers check it at your door.
- Payment. In the store: cash, debit, credit card or Bitcoin (how Bitcoin works at the register). Online: pay when you check out on the menu. Delivery: pay online, or with cash or debit at the door.
- Licensed product only. Everything we sell was tested by a New York State licensed lab. Look for New York's universal cannabis symbol and a Metrc QR code on every package, and ask for the certificate of analysis if you want to see it.
Late morning on a weekday is the quietest time in the store. Friday evening is busiest, and Tuesday and Friday nights the event space in the back is often running a game night.
