Dabs With Dad: How Father's Day 2024 Started Silk Road NYC's Event Run
Father’s Day, June 16, 2024. Four months after Silk Road NYC opened its doors, we ran “Dabs With Dad” — 4pm to 8pm, dads welcome, the good oil out. It was the first event of its kind at the shop, and two years later it’s still the one people bring up.
That’s the room. Not a press photo, not a mockup — the dads who showed up, standing in the shop on Jamaica Avenue.
It was covered as it happened
We’re not reconstructing this from memory. stupidDOPE published it the day of, June 16, 2024, under the byline of Celeste Hedera:

First-party photos and third-party press, on the same day, about the same event. That combination is the thing that’s hard to fake and harder to catch up to.
Two years later, we ran it back
On June 20, 2026 we put that 2024 group photo back on the feed — captioned, simply, “This was our first ever Dabs w dads event for Father’s Day 2024” — and announced the sequel the same night: “Dabs w Dads 2026.”
Two years, same block, same idea, grown up. That’s what a tradition looks like when it isn’t invented for a marketing calendar.
Why dabs, and why dads
Father’s Day gets treated like a joke holiday in retail — a tie, a mug, a discount code. We took it the other way. A lot of the men who walk into this shop came up when what they were doing got them criminalized, and they now have kids old enough to ask about it. Handing someone a rig, walking him through a low-temp dab properly, and letting him take his time with it is a different kind of afternoon than a sale.
It also plays to what we’re actually best at. Silk Road NYC runs the deepest solventless selection in the borough and a full dab bar to go with it — DabRite digital e-rigs, Octave terp timers, Disorderly Conduction e-nails and Cobra coils, Terp Slurp Pump cleaning stations, Birdshot Glassworks heady glass, slurper-style bangers, quartz bangers, carb caps and cold-start tools. Most shops sell you the oil and wish you luck. We’ll set the temperature with you.
The through-line
Dabs With Dad wasn’t a one-off — it’s where a run started. Art nights and Friday terpene tastings began that same June. Halloweed followed that fall. Benny the Butcher came through in June 2025. 710 turned into live rap cyphers about first dabs in 2026. Every one of them documented on the day, most of them covered by outlets that don’t work for us.
