Art Nights at a Queens Dispensary: Canvas Kaleidoscope (2024) to Canvas in the Clouds (2026)

Art Nights at a Queens Dispensary: Canvas Kaleidoscope (2024) to Canvas in the Clouds (2026)

Somewhere in the last year, “paint night at a dispensary” became a thing in Queens. We understand the appeal — we’ve been running them since June 2024. This post is the paper trail.

June 2024: Canvas Kaleidoscope & the Friday Terpene Tastings

Canvas Kaleidoscope and Friday Terpene Tasting — original story from June 7, 2024 previewing artwork on display at Silk Road NYC

On June 7, 2024 — four months after we opened our doors — we previewed Canvas Kaleidoscope: local artwork hung in the shop, paired with a Friday terpene tasting. Not a one-off. The next day’s story says it plainly: “We doing art every Friday tasting.” A weekly series — original art on the walls, terpenes on the table, every Friday, summer 2024.

June 8, 2024 — the art wall at the shop: canvases up, photography pinned, “we doing art every Friday tasting.”

What’s a terpene tasting? The same idea as a coffee cupping or a hot-sauce flight, applied to cannabis. Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give each cultivar its character — the citrus in one jar, the gas in another, the baked-goods sweetness in a third. At a tasting you smell across jars side by side and learn to tell them apart, the way you’d learn wine regions. It turns “what’s strongest?” into “what do I actually like?” — which is the whole point of a good budtender conversation, and it’s why we kept doing them.

January 2026: Canvas in the Clouds

Canvas in the Clouds — January 9, 2026 paint night at High Functions, led by K. Diazz, powered by Silk Road NYC

Fast-forward eighteen months and the format grew up. January 9, 2026: Canvas in the Clouds at High Functions, the event space in the back of the shop — doors at 6, brushes at 7, the whole night led by Queens artist K. Diazz. Easels out, canvases blank, a room full of people painting clouds while the speakers hum. Announced January 5th, packed by Friday.

Dates don’t move

Between those two nights sits a running calendar most dispensaries wouldn’t attempt: 710 dab celebrations with live rap cyphers, Halloweed (twice), 4/20 Around the World, poetry from Jamaica’s own MD Ahnaf Hossain, birthday shows with Sony Music artists, meet & greets with Benny the Butcher. All at 166-30 Jamaica Ave. All documented as they happened — on our feeds, in the press, on this blog.

Formats travel. That’s fine — imitation is a compliment with bad handwriting. But in this borough the receipts are public, and dates don’t move. Art nights at a licensed Queens dispensary started on Jamaica Ave in June 2024, and the walls here haven’t been bare since.
